Biologic treatments for acute or chronic Ankle Sprains and Sport Injuries
A sprain is a stretched or torn ligament. A sprain can occur of any ligament in the body. The ligaments are the strong fibrous bands that connect one bone to another bone at a joint and help keep the bones from moving out of place. The most common site of sprains is the ankle. An ankle sprain can happen when you twist or turn your ankle in a position that puts excessive stress on the ligaments. Most ankle sprains happen during sports activities or when walking or running on an uneven surface.
The severity of an ankle sprain depends on whether the ligaments are stretched or actually torn. If the sprain is mild with minimal pain and swelling then the ligaments may only be stretched. If the sprain is severe with significant pain, swelling bruising and difficulty with pressure on the joint then one of more ligaments may be torn.
Our program is excellent for acute or chronic ligament injury whether involving the ankle, wrist, knee or other joint. If the acute sprain does not respond to conservative care including rest, ice, compression and elevation then the injection of biologic preparations can speed healing, reduce inflammation and allow a quicker recovery.
In chronic ligament injuries, we have had excellent success in promoting improved function and pain reduction allowing the athlete or injured patient a return to normal activities.
